Mathway for iPad – Maths Problem Solver Educational App

The Mathway Mathematics Problem Solver iPad app is ten calculators rolled into one. Mathway can propel a calculator (in a virtual keyboard) with the symbols and tools for the sort of problem you need to solve, whether you’re working with elementary math, algebra, trigonometry, calculus, chemistry, or statistics. Furthermore, the app can assist you in framing the problem to be confident it presents what you need. It’s a valuable source for both students and specialists, making it an Editors’ Choice educative app.

Show Your Work

The primary Mathway app, which allows you to solve problems relating to its virtual calculators, is available. If you aspire to see the steps that move into determining the issues, you have to pay. Enhancing to the paid version necessitates either a $19.99 monthly subscription or $79.99 per year. Paying excludes all third-party promotions (not that there is much in the free variant). It also lets you conserve your problem history and obtain step-by-step solutions from everywhere. Depending on the length of time you allow step-checking, it can run into some money, but your subscription can quickly be canceled. Furthermore, the paid variant can serve as a valuable “virtual tutor” for students, giving them the answers and showing how the app arrived.

To upgrade the app, you hit the Upgrade button in a pull-down menu when you hit the gear symbol at the screen’s upper right. You then choose between the $19.99 monthly and $79.99 yearly subscription, and when indicated, enter your Apple ID.

Mathway is compatible with the iPad, iPhone, and iPod touch; there’s also an Android version. It has been tested with an iPad Air 2 running iOS 10.3. First, look at the accessible functions and then try the paid functions by funding monthly dues.

A Cornucopia of Calculators

At the top left corner of the device screen, is a list icon (three stacked lines) that, when touched, reveals a pull-down menu listing the app’s ten subject areas: Basic Math, Pre-Algebra, Statistics, Finite Math, Linear Algebra, Algebra, Trigonometry, Precalculus, Calculus, Chemistry. Other subjects are also included but would rise under one of the headings above.

To figure out how the functions serve, you have to explore them, as the app doesn’t have a handy Help function (although the Mathway website offers a lot of information).

In the Trigonometry calculator, hitting the keyboard’s Sin/Cos brings to the front a keypad with 24 keys—Sin, Cos, Tan, Sec, Csc, and Cot; Arcsin, Arccos, and so on.

All ten calculators share the left-most 2/3 of the keyboard, including commonly used figures such as the integers 0 till 9, the variables x, y, and z, open and close parentheses, and brackets. It has operands for the four basic operations (addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division), an equal sign, exponents, and roots.

There are two methods to enter an equation in Mathway: using the keyboard or photographing the equation with your iPad’s camera.

Value Squared

You could think of Mathway as the Photoshop of mathematical apps—it has far more characteristics and functions than a typical user is ever expected to require. Finding the exact parts you need to use may take some poking around, but they’re probably there.

Mathway is an excellent tool if you are in the sciences or are a math or science student and frequently have to solve even mildly complex math problems. If you need to see the steps that go into calculating an answer, it will cost you extra, but it’s still a lot less expensive than hiring a math tutor. The feature-rich Mathway app earns our Editors’ Choice as an educational iPad app.
