In anticipation of SYL Canal verdict by Indian Supreme Court, Punjab’s ruling Shiromani Akali Dal is mobilizing support from the rural masses. SYL has been an emotive issue and the same can be the major factor during upcoming elections.
According to an internal survey conducted by The Tribune that Akali’s stand strong with the support on SYL canal Issue and can win major votes if verdict is in favor of Punjab.
“The issue has become the mainstay for all political discourse”, on one hand AAP is claiming that they have withdrawn the second affidavit and stands with the people of Punjab and on the other SAD has slammed Aam Aadmi Party of ‘treacherous nature’ by even withdrawing the second supposedly neutral affidavit it submitted to the Supreme Court after withdrawing the first blatantly pro-Haryana affidavit on SYL issue.
SAD spokesman Dr. Daljit Cheema said that recent withdrawal of the second affidavit proved that AAP and its convener Arvind Kejriwal had no seriousness towards Punjab or its farmers. “If one is to see the present trend that day is not far when the AAP government in Delhi will file a third, fourth and even a fifth affidavit as per what suits the government on that particular date.”
Meanwhile, CM Parkash Singh Badal is reminding people of the struggle the party has gone through to save Punjab waters and is warning people to stand united against outsiders and to get ready for sacrifice in case of negative verdict.
